Common Car Repairs You Can DIY

While most vehicle repairs require a mechanic’s expert touch, you have a few options if you want to repair your ride yourself. As long as you can find somewhere with used truck parts for sale, you can save some money by performing these fixes on your own.

Oil Changes

Find a reliable place to buy fresh oil and a new filter, and you should be all set to change the oil in your car. Let the engine cool down completely and drain the oil into a pan. Replace the filter, lubricated with new oil, and then funnel the rest of the new oil into your engine until it’s full. Recycle your used oil at the nearest pickup location.

Spark Plug Replacements

The key to changing your spark plugs is to maintain the order in which they are arranged — otherwise, you could cause your engine to misfire and wind up worse than before. Still, the process is simple and doesn’t take much time while saving you a significant amount of money.

Windshield Wiper Replacements

Your windshield wipers slide on and off of their hooks with little strength required, so you don’t need to head to the shop for a straightforward switch. Make sure you get the right size — most places that sell windshield wipers will have directions on which ones fit which cars — and you’ll be ready to perform this task yourself.

Air Filter Replacements

Check the owner’s manual of your car first, but in most vehicles, changing out an air filter is an easy process. Take off the cover and replace the dirty one with a clean, new filter, and you’ll be all set. Don’t waste time going to the mechanic for something so simple.

Not everything about owning a vehicle is this easy, but take advantage of where it is, and save a few dollars as you do.
